One Down

8 April 2008

One shot down - countless to go.  It was quite uneventful really.  I made sure I followed the proceedures - clean hands, clean environment, etc.  My hand hestitated for a brief moment before I stuck myself, but any nervousness was all for naught.  I didn’t feel a thing.  Nothing.  Nada.  Piece of cake.

According to Drugs.com Lupron can cause the following side effects:

       · an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
       · difficulty urinating;
       · bone pain; or
       · numbness, tingling, or weakness in the legs or arms.
       · hot flashes or sweating;
       · decreased libido or impotence;
       · lack of energy;
       · depression;
       · breast enlargement;
       · nausea or vomiting;
       · constipation;
       · weakness;
       · dizziness;
       · headache; or
       · redness, burning, itching, or swelling at the injection site.

So far the only symptom I might have experienced is night sweats.  I say “might” because while I definitely did experience night sweats last night, I do sometimes normally too.  So I can’t say it was definitely because of the injection.  If I continue to nightly, that would be abnormal.

It may take some time for the Lupron to build up in my system, so there may be more side effects to come.  But so far so good!

    Yep, as a phlebotomist, I am constantly mystified by peoples fear of needles. The pain is so much less than even a stubbed toe. I guess the whole issue is that you know you are going to get that “small pinch”. Everyone is surprised by a stubbed toe.

    A stubbed toe hurts like a beotch - and comes out of nowhere. If getting shots was like that no one would do it!
