Build Out
18 August 2007My new super computer is complete! The process was not without challenges, but rewarding none the less. I bent some pins when installing the CPU and bending them back took about 15 minutes of very careful work with a small screwdriver and a paper clip to move them back into position. I munged up the CPU fan stand trying to punch it down into the motherboard, but it seems to be secure none the less. I also had to pull the motherboard back out twice to deal with other minutia before the project was complete. I think it took about 4 hours from start to finish. Not bad for a first timer IMHO.
The only real problem is that we keep our computer in a cabinet, and I pre-measured for height and width but not for depth. The case is about 2 inches too deep to close the cabinet door. Not good when the house is on the market…but I’m not going to worry about it right now. The computer is running great, and the temperature sensors are confirming what I already knew - that the box gets too hot in the cabinet. Another problem for another day.
