Let the Good Times Roll

15 May 2007

We’ve been in need of a vacation for some time now, so it was with great pleasure that we took a spur of the moment trip up to Tahoe to get away from all the stress and celebrate our anniversary. Other then some trips out to Colorado for meetings we really haven’t had a vacation since our last anniversary.

It was a short trip, but we packed enough in to make it worthwhile. After checking in at the Embassy Suites Friday night we had the buffet at Harrah’s and caught an improv show over at Harvey’s. The improv show was nothing to write home about. The opening act was a big doofus whose name isn’t even memorable. I call him a doofus because he flopped around on stage like he was high or drunk, made constant references to being from Humboldt along with the obligatory wink, and was not at all funny. He was followed with a performance from Skippy who wasn’t scared to play up his ‘child star’ past. He was funnier on Family Ties. Finally, the much raved Rocky LaPorte closed the show. Funnier then the other two, but I’ve seen better. Much better.

Saturday we headed out to Pine Nut Mountains for an ATV tour with Lake Tahoe Adventures. That was the highlight of the trip. The ATV’s were 4 wheel drive and the guide took us up and down some slopes that had me worried about coming out with all my skin intact. All in all it was exhilarating hitting the curves, taking the slopes and going all out on the straightaways.

We ate at the Chart House that night. I was in the mood for Prime Rib and the waitress casually mentioned that the Callahan cut for $4 more was worth the price because Prime Rib tends to be so fatty. More meat for the buck. I didn’t expect them to deliver an actual cow to my table. That cut must have been 8 inches long, 5 inches wide and 2 inches thick. Easily the biggest piece of meat ever to grace my dinner plate. I was in shock. It was good though - at least the half that I was able to actually eat. Drew warned me ahead of time that I better not try to slide my leftovers his way as I’m prone to do. He’ll usually finish what I can’t. He couldn’t even get through his own. It was that big.

Sunday it was time to pack up and go home. It was a little sad to think that we may not come back to Tahoe where we spent my 30th birthday, got married, and celebrated our 4th anniversary. Although, if we ever get to Colorado I suspect there will be plenty of great places to vacation there as well.
