Hell Hath No Fury
8 March 2007Like a scorned women. True enough, but a disgruntled man ain’t no walk in the park either.
We’ve been on the market now for two and a half weeks and there has only been one couple through to see the place. One. In the what should be the busiest time, it being a new house on the market and all, we’ve had one. So, when I spoke with my realtor a few nights ago and he said that he had three different people lined up to see the place I got excited. The first couple was booked for Thursday - which is today. I thought it was a good sign, it being my birthday and all, that someone would come to see the place today. Why? Because to me my birthday is a holiday and holidays have been good to me as far as real estate goes. I first saw the condo I later bought on the 4th of July, and we first looked at this house on New Years Day. It seemed only appropriate that someone would want to buy this place on my holiday.
To get ready for the showing I decided to work from home so I could take Alex for a car ride while the house was being viewed. People are coming to see the house - not get licked to death by a cat patrolling Border Collie. I spent the evening before knocking out some less frequent maintenance - polishing the stainless steel in the kitchen and cleaning out the refrigerator. Today I got up early and spent a few hours cleaning the place up. The house was ready to be shown.
Our realtor didn’t have a specific time as to when the people were going to come by since they had other properties to look at in addition to ours. I only requested that he give me a call about 20 minutes before arrival so I had time to clean up and clear out. He was expecting that to happen around 11 or 12, so I settled in to get some work done. Around 10am I got a call from our realtor, Dave, stating that the person who was to view the house had no transportation and to expect them closer to 12. I said okay, but in the back of my mind I was thinking “No transportation? Can they not afford a car? Should they really be looking at houses in this price range?” The internal dialog I had with myself left me feeling less then confident about these potential buyers.
At 11 Dave called again to say that the viewing was cancelled. Apparently the wife had a huge fight with her husband last night and he vetoed the idea of seeing houses today. And, to make sure she didn’t come on her own as was her intention, he left his house with his car this morning — only after disabling her car. Nice.
Really, its for the best. These are not the kind of people I’d want to potentially go into contract with anyway. Better to find out they were flakes before they came over, fell in love with our house and made an offer. Hopefully the 2 potential buyers that are coming in on Saturday will be a little more evolved - or at least like each other enough not to sabotage their dreams and mine.

Jeezus. Hopefully you instructed your realtor to reject any further inquiries from this happy couple?
